ThinkTankers Charter and Code of Ethics

This charter defines ThinkTankers fundamentals. It is intended to serve as a frame of reference for the commitment of ThinkTankers.

Good governance of ThinkTankers involves organizing the processes and practices of various actors involved in development by creating the conditions for effective management, while being attentive to security, good practices, organizational conditions, and taking into account the expectations and interests of stakeholders.

The Think Tank ThinkTankers contributes to the development of competitiveness by supporting companies and institutions in setting up new organizational and working methods. It is one of the key tools for African countries to develop economic intelligence.

ThinkTankers members must play their full role and bring real added value to the Think Tank. They have the duty to act in the interest of the institutions they support. They have a duty of loyalty which conditions the respect of other principles related to independence of judgment, to conflict of interests, to deontology, to good faith and to professionalism.

Conditions to become a ThinkTankers member

Each ThinkTanker commits to devote on a voluntary basis, at least ten (10) days per year in order to participate in conferences, seminars, training, support, expertise on behalf of public and private African organizations that will make the request to ThinkTankers.
Each expert will have to meet specific conditions in order to become a member and offers his expertise. These conditions are human, technical and professional in nature.

Capitalization and mutualization of information

Each ThinkTanker is committed to regularly feed the Think Tank with reflections and proposals to develop the Group’s Collective Intelligence. The information provided must be verified and validated.
ThinkTankers encourages its members to communicate, share and help each other when needed.

Good practices and rules

Human skills are at the heart of ThinkTankers. To ensure its proper functioning, and in the interest of all its members, every ThinkTanker member must improve and adapt himself to socio-economic, cultural, political and technological changes.

Every ThinkTanker who is implementing a project in an institution, is evolving in its environment. The charter and rules of confidentiality established by that institution apply to the Thinktankers member.

ThinkTankers requires the participation and involvement of everyone. The ThinkTank effectiveness will depend directly on the quality of the work done by each ThinkTanker and the respect of the commitments specified in this Charter.

Good practices can be summarized in 10 principles.

Every ThinkTanker:
1. Ensures the involvement of decision makers in the project.
2. Correctly identify needs by helping stakeholders in this process.
3. Has an obligation of confidentiality vis-à-vis the institution that he is helping.
4. Exchanges with the other members of the Think Tank who can help him if needed.
5. Evaluate any new membership application to ThinkTankers.
6. Adapts its deliverable as needed and at the understanding level of the recipient.
7. Remains discreet about its missions and protects the information it has.
8. Undertakes actions to encrypt information related to its missions.
9. Ban any action of manipulation, misinformation or rumor.
10. Must be apolitical and neutral. He can only express his opinion in a strictly professional context.

Every ThinkTankers is aware of the risks associated with information, particularly in terms of misinformation, destabilization, manipulation, spread of rumors, espionage, etc. For this reason, all ThinkTankers members are committed to impose an extremely rigorous ethic in the actions they can take.

ThinkTankers values

Aware of responsibilities involved in carrying out support activities, every ThinkTanker member adopts among others, the following values:
- He advocates respect for anonymity and respect for privacy of its stakeholders.
- He opposes any form of censorship or control on his part that could hamper the collection, analysis or dissemination of information.
- He is at the service of others to better support them by providing them with the essential and effective expertise.
- He respects any validated requests whatever its degree of importance.
- He exchanges with ThinkTankers members around Think Tank Improvement Ideas.
- He ensures its mission as soon as possible according to code of practices. He also ensures to meet an optimal quality.

Evaluation and monitoring

Audits can be carried out with the organizations that ThinkTankers members are helping. The objective is to verify the quality of ThinkTankers’ interventions. A contact could be established with those organizations in order to have a feedback on the work of a ThinkTankers expert whether it is a conference, a seminar, a training, a diagnosis, an audit or an assistance to project implementation. In addition, each organization has the opportunity to contact ThinkTankers directly to express their opinion on the expert’s work.

Any negative feedback will give rise to an explanation from the concerned expert.

If a ThinkTanker receives three negative and validated feedbacks from different organizations, he will automatically be excluded.

Using ThinkTankers logo and brand

ThinkTankers members are not allowed to use ThinkTankers brand for their personal activities. Any use of ThinkTankers logo that does not occur in the strict framework of the Think Tank must be the subject of an explicit request. Any diverted commercial use of ThinkTankers could result to the exclusion of the concerned member.

Application of the charter

By accepting this charter, ThinkTankers members make a commitment to comply with all rules of applications, ethics and control.
